Dogs! If you need an idea for getting your people out of town and into the yuletide spirit, consider Victorian Christmas in Nevada City.

Located in the Sierra foothills, Nevada City is a historic gold mining town. Most of the buildings in the historic main street district date back to the 1860s. The place is as cute as a poodle puppy. And the folks there know how to have the Christmas spirit. The streets and Victorian houses are all lighted up; there are carolers, bag pipers, and people in Victorian costume. I even saw a lady dressed up as a Christmas tree. I wanted to lift my leg on her trunk, but my human said no.

Anyway, if you’re a pooch looking for a festive adventure, I give Nevada City four paws and a wag.

“There’s nothing like an October evening on the San Francisco Bay, with the breeze blowing through your puff, the salty tang on your nose, and the sunset across the skyline…It’s what gives me inspiration,” muses Reina.

Don’t rule out urban options.Try a hotel with a view. You’ll have hours of entertainment watching the birds fly by.

And remember, dogs, always buckle up! A safe dog is a happy dog.
