For those humans with children at home, your pooch can be a great resource for inspiring and supporting your kids while they write. My human teaches reading and writing, and I work side-by-side with her. I have developed a real passion for kids and literacy work.
My first priority is to create a happy and relaxed learning environment. I make sure to greet each student with a wag and a quick lick on the foot as they come in the door. Even the teenage boys love me.

For younger kids who are working on developing stories, I provide inspiration and ideas for their pieces. A six-year-old student even wrote a series called The Harper Chronicles! I wish my life were as exciting as the stories I’m part of…in one, I learned Chinese, in another I had to deal with a ghost who threw a teapot at me (!), and I even went under the sea in a submarine that could turn fancy colors with a show-off button!

I also take time to supervise what’s going on. My presence helps keep the kids focused and engaged. And It’s quite interesting for me to see the stories that come out onto the paper.
So parents, don’t overlook an important resource you may already have in your home — your dog! We can help motivate your child’s reading and writing. Tails and tales are a great combination.
